Hello Knitters, Spinners, and Weavers!
HATS FOR HEAD START!!Last year you knitted over 475 hats for our local Head Start kids. In August we'll kick off our "Knitting for Kids" again, so you can begin to bring in your crochet and knit hats for the winter. It was so great to see you
come in with one, two, or in the case of some, BAGS of hats! They are small, and quick to knit up! Remember to use
washable yarns.
SPECIAL HAPPENINGS THIS SPRING ~ SUMMER:
Sherrie Hansen, a knitter friend of ours at the shop is doing the 60 mile Susan G. Komen Walk this fall! We are having a special AUCTION to raise funds for this cause to fight against BREAST CANCER. Mark your calendars and plan to come to our auction for fun and festivities on Thursday evening, July 16, at 6:00 PM. We will have food, social time with our fiber friends, knitting, fiber related auction, and all for a great cause.
MOTHER'S DAY ANNUAL SALE: May 8, 9, 10: See details in newsletter
LYS TOUR (Local Yarns Shops Tour) May 14, 15, 16, 17. We are participating in the LYS Tour again this year, with 23 shops. Be sure to look at the LYS Tour web site for details. You can pick up your passports now at participating shops. Last year was a blast, and this year, even more prizes and fun for participants! www.lystour.com. We are excited to be part of this community of yarn shops!
LADIES' NIGHT OUT in DOWNTOWN BELLINGHAM: Friday, May 29 , 5:00 – 8:00. This is a first annual for local shops downtown which we will be participating in. Come visit shops in our downtown area for shopping, food, treats, and special drawings. We will finish the night at the Copper Hog on State Street for a fashion show and benefit for Women Care Shelter, which I will be sure to have some knitted and woven garments included! There will be a small cover charge at the restaurant, which will go to the Women Care Shelter, and will include the fashion show, goodie bags, food. You are invited to participate with me in Friday Night Ladies' Night!
August 3 - 6: Kid's Workshop. Taught by Nancy, Margaret and Norene. See description under "Other".
We will begin weaving our fabric for WAULKING again in August. See Nancy if you would like to weave part of the 14 yards of fabric. Every year we get better at this and labeling who's piece belongs to who, so you will be guaranteed to get your own piece back! Our anniversary date is October 3rd, and again we will invite the Seattle Gaelic Society to sing along to waulk and bless the fabric with us!
CRAFTS and YARNS: We've seen the market change to more and more of you making your own things for yourselves and for others rather than just "buying". This includes spinning and weaving as well. We've seen an upswing in the sales of spinning wheels and weaving looms, and in classes here at the shop. It's back to basics in this type of economy, folks want to be more at home, doing crafts with family and friends. We're adding Plymouth Yarns – Encore, and Boku. Encore has been a household favorite for years, and Boku is a lot like Noro, except that it's a lot softer, and less expensive, and beautiful colors, too!
Check out my blog on the website, I've been adding events to it more regularly, you might see yourself there from a class or knit night!?! I have also signed up on Ravelry, as a yarn shop, but for those who know me, it's hard to sit at the computer to check that very often! I know some of you have signed up on it; I've gotta get Miss Knitty on there! In the meantime, I'll do my best to check, and you can keep nudging me!
Stitch N Pitch: August 27th – tickets will be on sale soon! Ride the big bus to Quest Field to watch the Mariners play ball at summer's end….
Days closed:
Memorial Day, May 25
Independence Day, July 4 and 5

Groups that meet at the shop:
Knit Night every Tuesday from 5:30 - 8:00 PM. Bring your knitting, crocheting, or spinning projects to work on, bring your finished projects for sharing. Knit night is always a nice break from the routine to work on your projects among friends. Fabulous Group!
Knit Day every Wednesday from 12:00 – 3:00. Same as Knit night, just a great group of folks who like to get together and share about knitting projects. My motto: Come when you can, leave when you must!
Lace Group every THIRD Saturday from 10:00 – 2:00. I'll tell you, this group is not for the faint of heart! This is TATTING, and BOBBIN LACE in all forms, and beautiful! This group loves and shares the history of lace making, and also teaches lace making. If you are lucky, maybe you'll be here on the day, that the antique lace is pulled out and shared! WOW! What a group!
