Classes

Hello Knitters, Spinners, and Weavers!

The feel of autumn is here already, and the mood for fiber is moving! For seasonal knitters, it’s time to pick up your needles and get knitting again as the days are getting shorter, and the holidays draw near.

This fall, we have some great teachers for you again, so expand your horizons and take a class to learn some new skills. We have some visitors coming our way as well, for knitters, spinners, and weavers, so read on, and I hope you find something that will tickle your fancy to learn a new skill. I know that even though I teach several classes, I also will take a class or two, because 1) I can learn
something new and/or 2) I can take a class with a friend (it’s a social thing!).

SPECIAL HAPPENINGS THIS FALL:

September 20 and 21: Cat Bordhi to visit the shop again! Saturday September 20: New Adventures in Sock Knitting, and Sunday September 21, Moebius Harvest Basket. Both classes are 10:00 – 4:00 and are $50.00 each. Come and learn from this amazingly talented, patient teacher.

September 26, 27, and 28: Annual Anniversary Sale at NW Handspun Yarns.

October 4 – 11: National Spinning and Weaving Week: Come in and try your hand and weaving (we’ll have a loom set up for you), or drop spindling. Ask us about the history of spinning and weaving. Did you know that your clothes are still coming from weaving looms at the industrial level? Did weaving really start the industrial revolution?

October 10 and 11: FiberTrends Trunk Show. Bev Gelaskes, Bellingham native and FiberTrends owner will be here showcasing FiberTrends – patterns, yarns, sweaters, felted items, kits, all available for purchase directly from FiberTrends. Come and meet Bev and see everything at once!

November 5, 6, 7: Judith MacKenzie Workshops. Judith will be here to teach with NW Handspun Yarns for spinners! The first day, November 5: Comprehensive Spinning is a must for all who want to take either of the next two classes. November 6: Spin to Weave; November 7: Spin to Knit. 10:00 – 4:00 each day. $60.00 for each class.

Charity Knitting/Donation Station: In August we received our first hat for HeadStart!! Knitters have been coming in for the free patterns, so I know that knitting is happening for Head Start! The children are 3 and 4 years old. We will give the hats to the local Head Start program in early December. For the Felted Bags, we are working with the Opportunity Council’s Dorothy Place – they auction off the bags every year at their November fundraiser. Knitters have been coming in for yarns – the bags will be displayed soon. So, come in, get your free patterns, and knit a hat or two for a local 3 or 4 year old child! Our goal is 330 hats – and I know YOU can do it!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Watch for something special from our shop, as customer Sheri and I will be doing something to help raise awareness for this important issue.

January 31: Closed for Inventory Day.

We’ve got some team changes, as our favorite college students have moved on, and now we welcome two experienced knitters Sara (also a weaver) and Noreen to the team. All the others are still here, including our lovely Miss Knitty the kitty!

Remember that if you need help at any time you are most welcome to come in and get help! We will do our best to get you out of your stitches and on your way again! Come to our knitting groups for social knitting time on Tuesday evenings 5:30-8:00 and /or Wednesdays 12:00 – 3:00.

In the meantime, stay cool, enjoy your fiber arts, your cats, your dogs, and families, as summer eases into fall. We’ll be seeing you and your finished projects sooner than later, I hope!

Kind regards,
Nancy, Margaret, Meg, Debbie, Yuki, Sara, Noreen and Miss Knitty!

Groups that meet at the shop:

Knit Night every Tuesday from 5:30 - 8:00 PM.  Bring your knitting, crocheting, or spinning projects to work on, bring your finished projects for sharing.  Knit night is always a nice break from the routine to work on your projects among friends.  Fabulous Group!

Knit Day every Wednesday from 12:00 – 3:00.  Same as Knit night, just a great group of folks who like to get together and share about knitting and other fiber projects.  Sox Appeal has joined this group!  My motto:  Come when you can, leave when you must!

Lace Group every THIRD Saturday from 10:00 – 2:00.  I’ll tell you, this group is not for the faint of heart!  This is TATTING, and BOBBIN LACE in all forms, and beautiful!  This group loves and shares the history of lace making, and also teaches lace making.  If you are lucky, maybe you’ll be here on the day, that the antique lace is pulled out and shared!  WOW!  What a group!
