 Novelty Yarn Series:

 Spinning Thick and Thin

This class is a great opportunity for the spinner to explore (or revisit?) irregular yarn.  That lovely chunky stuff you look wistfully at a new spinner turning out?  Heather will guide you through making it with control and show you how it is the technique at the root of noils, wraps and all sorts of fun novelty yarns!
You will need to bring your basic spinning skills, a wheel and some prepared roving.  If you need supplies, you'll get a 10% discount as a student.  If you need to arrange to use a shop wheel for the class, let us know when you sign up.  Don't forget your sense of humor!

$20.  Heather Seevers, teacher extraordinaire. We are collecting names and phone numbers. You will be contacted when the instructor knows the schedule for her day job.

Boucle
Come and learn more about novelty yarn technique with Heather.  Boucle means "to curl or buckle," and this yarn does this by way of it's irregular structure.  It is the means by which yarn gets loops and bumps.  (Your big opportunity to come to the yarn shop, get loopy and no one will have to call a cab for you to get home!)
Bring your basic spinning skills and a wheel and have fun!  Heather will provide materials (clean mohair and wensleydale locks and binder thread) to spin, included in fee. If you really want to use your own, fee drops $10.

$30.  Heather Seevers. We are collecting names and phone numbers. You will be contacted when the instructor knows the schedule for her day job.

Core Spun Yarn
Ever looked at that lumpy, bumpy, hairy, or fuzzy yarn and shaken your head wondering “how?”  Heather is the mistress of the core spun or wrapped yarn and she will show you how to adapt your spinning style to this fun technique.  She will come with her bag of tricks and a well-stocked fiber supply, included in class fee.  She promises to teach us the long tail lock-looking yarn she’s taken all the prizes for!
Bring your basic spinning skills and a wheel (bulky flyer? Bring it).

Add Weird Stuff to Your Yarn
Yup.  Pretty much explains it.  Beads?  Silk cocoons?  Dice?  The list is only limited by your interest.  Heather will teach you how.  Be not amazed by what you see in skeins on etsy.  Make it yourself!  Materials included in the class fee.  Just bring your open mind, a wheel and a drop spindle and get ready to have fun!

Knitting & Crochet:

 Beginning Knitting Class
So, you want to learn to knit?  This is a good hands-on opportunity to get the help you need.  In the first class, students cast on and knit working on a scarf as your first project.  The second class lets you build on those skills after some practice time between classes.  The goal is to cover the 4 basics of knitting: casting on, knitting, purling and casting off and you'll make a lovely scarf to prove to yourself you've done it!  It's a good refresher opportunity for those who haven't knit in an embarrassing amount of time and can't remember how to start, too!
Bring one skein Cascade 220 or similar yarn and size 8 needles.  Staff will assist you when you sign up.  10% discount applies for students.

Miscellaneous Fun!

Toothbrush Rug Making -- a rag rug technique
Learn how to easily craft a fabric rug using a “toothbrush” as your tool.  This is not braiding or crocheting, it’s a technique begun in Sweden and used by the Amish. It’s easy on your hands and wrists, so if you have trouble crocheting rugs, this is for you. During the first class, you’ll learn about choosing the best materials, a quick and easy way to make your fabric strips, as well as joining your pieces with no sewing.
You can finish a rug in 8 hours if you wish, so this is a fast way to create a custom-colored rug to warm the tootsies of those you love!  Get back to your roots and do what your grandma did while using recycled or new fabrics.
Bring 3 yds of lightweight 100% cotton washed and dried but not stripped.(no flannel or denim) minimum class size 3.
